The Lamy Safari is a good, no-frills pen. The nib is a nail, devoid of response, but sturdy enough to lend to a ham-fisted brute and come back unharmed. The wire clip grips well in either my shirt pocket or my thick Mackinaw wool vest, yet slides smoothly, without snagging pocket material.
Although the nib is stiff, it is available in a wide array of widths, including 1.1 mm and 1.3 mm italics. The other nibs can be custom ground, thanks to the generous tipping. The Lamy cartridge / converter system is proprietary, so cartridge users are limited to Lamy cartridges, but any brand of bottled fountain pen ink may be used with the Lamy converter. The Safari has a triangular, ergonomic section, which some people find annoying. I have no preference for the triangular section, but if you are unsure, give it a try first. The Safari can be purchased for about $25 with a converter. I own five, in extra fine, fine, medium, broad, and 1.1 mm italic. I highly recommend them.
Steel nib EF, F, M, B, Italic. Capped length, 5 1/2"; posted, 6 1/2"; girth, 1/2". Cartridge / converter fill. Slip cap. In Blue, Yellow, Red, Charcoal, and Blue/Red.
